It is located in the north of the City, on number 333 of Univeridad Avenue, Las Víboras (Vipers) Colony, next to Morelos Sport Unit.

You can get to the University of Colima facilities circulating around Camino Real Boulevard, after the DIF roundabout, passing through the intersection of Gonzalo de Sandoval and Felipe Sevilla del Río avenues.

Founded on 1940 as Popular University of Colima, under the Government of Colonel Pedro Torres Ortiz, the Independent University of Colima is one of the Institutions of Higher Education with greater prestige in the country.

In its beginnings it occupied an old large house en 20 de Noviembre avenue, near the Hidalgo Park. In 1962 it moved to the building of the old Hospital of the Sacred Heart, on Manuel Gallardo street - present University Institute of the Beautiful Arts - and finally, in 1973, premiered modern facilities in its present campus, The University City.

Due to its fast and sustained growth, in a moment the new campus became inadequate and at present, besides the one in Colima, it has three foreign delegations, located in Manzanillo, Tecomán and Coquimatlán, and the Cultural Set of the Ex-Ranch of Nogueras, in Comala, beside baccalaureates in the ten municipalities of the state.

The campus of the University City is divided in four sectors:

* The main set, North sector, is used by administrative dependancies, some faculties and social schools of the medicine areas, sciences and humanities, as well as the National Compact Disc Editing Center, pioneering institution in México in the field of computer science.

* The Sport Unit totally occupies the central sector, delimited by Gonzalo de Sandoval and Universidad (University) avenues.* In the south east and south west sectors are located the student and graduate associations, the union of the University, the Scientific Research centers and the ultramodern Library of Sciences.

In University Autonomy Plaza, northeastern corner of the Sport Unit, can be appraised a mural of Adolfo Mexiac realized with the technique of stone mosaic.

On Universidad Av., next to the monumental relief titled Universe-University, work of Rafael Zamarripa, starts a corridor that ends directly at the Rectorate Plaza, where you can appreciate another relief mural of the same author, commemorative of the 55 anniversary of the foundation of the University.

In the west flank of the plaza is the metallic sculpture of Sebastián Game of geometry, and inside the Rectorate is an oil painting of mural dimensions of the colimense Jorge Chávez Carrillo.

There is another sculpture of Sebastián in front of the Library of Sciences, The Palm, 8 meters high metal work, and in the interior individual oil murals of Gil Garea and Javier Fernández.

Circulando por el Boulevard Camino Real, después de la Glorieta del DIF, pasando el crucero con la Avenida Gonzalo de Sandoval y Felipe Sevilla del Río, se llega a las instalaciones de la Universidad de Colima.
