In the pre-hispanic age existed in the Valley of Minatitlán an indigenous town called Tlacalahustla (Where the blowpipes are made), part of conqueror Fernando de Santosâ mission. In Independence, two natives called Juan José and Juan fought leading a group of patriots of the region whose names were conserved in a hill, later called Ruanillos. In 1817, the Figueroa family established in the farm of El Mamey, and then, two more families, Mancilla and Virgen, also took up residence there, originating the growth of the population
On June 25, 1912 the old congregation of El Mamey was elevated to municipality changing its name to Minatitlán on 1918, by the initiative of Arias Figueroa, referring to it as a âplace of minesâ. In 1924 it was suppressed as municipality and started to depend on Villa de Ãlvarez, with the character of Commissariat. Finally on October 7, 1932 it was elevated by decree as Municipality
Being President of the Republic Gustavo DÃaz Ordaz the present Municipal Presidency building was established, and then it got remodeled and extended being President of the Republic, Carlos Salinas de Gortari, and Constitutional Governor of the State, Carlos de la Madrid Virgin, on January, 1993.
