This place can be acceded walking or by different means of transport, such as any of the urban bus routes, taxis and particular automobile.
In the heart of the city of Colima, in the Portal Morelos, is the Regional Museum of History. The building is an old large house of century XIX and was recovered by the architect Gonzalo Villa Chávez to adapt it to its present functions. It consists of thirteen permanent exhibition halls distributed in two plants, besides patios, ample corridors and other annex spaces. In this building, property of the University of Colima and administered by the INAH, numerous archaeological pieces of the West of México are exhibited.
The pieces that integrates this museum come from diverse collections rescued by the INAH, as well as from particular collections given for this aim by people of Colima. It stands out the reproduction of a tomb of tiro, to which the visitors can enter to admire numerous pieces found in this type of funeral constructions. In the upper level, it is illustrated the Conquer, the Colony, Independence, the quest for regional identity, the Reform, the Revolution and subsequent periods. The scientific script of the rooms of archeology was made by the archeologist MarÃa de Los Ãngeles Olay and the museum details were in charge of Juan José Arias, with the support of José Ortiz Lanz.
Within the facilities of the museum it is included a bookstore mounted with the support of the Economic Culture Fund and a great temporary exhibition hall, equipped to receive samples of international level. The museum is in addition an alive space, in which the activities of animation and cultural diffusion that are offered throughout the year make this place one of the most active centers of the entity.
