In the top of the crag that penetrates in the lagoon by its east shore, well-known as the Viewpoint, as well as in the Islet or Devilâs Island, can still be seen remains of pre-hispanic constructions, and in the environs abound the flue tombs It is located in the foot of San Gabriel hill. This is a grotto abundant zone, so there are several puddles in the environs of its north shore, which are caverns whose ceiling has collapsed and that remain flooded because of being connected with the lagoon. The puddles have few meters of diameter, but most of them have a great depth. Perhaps what it has contributed more to its fame is the legend of the enchanted town that lies under its waters, gathered by Gregorio Torres Quintero in his book entitled âColimotes Storiesâ According to history, one night a gallant kidnapped his beloved by both agreement and ran away from her family and the revenge, taking her on the haunch of his horse. They were persecuted by the girlâs father and a group of ranchers who accompanied him. Feeling that they were being reached, the enamored one invoked the valley genius and offered him his soul in exchange of getting them hidden. The genius accepted the deal and hid them in a town at the bottom of a gorge, sending in addition a ferocious storm that stopped the pursuers. It rained so much that night that at dawn a lagoon was formed â Alcuzahue - and the town remained under its waters forever. There are people who assure that in the Sunday afternoons, if one listen with attention, it is possible to hear the call of the bells of the church of the missing and submerged town in deep and dark waters of the Lagoon of Alcuzahue. | Laguna Alcuzahue
