Salagua is the southern bay of the two that compose the great bay of Manzanillo. From its south end, in front of San Pedrito, to the beginning of the peninsula of La Audiencia, there are six kilometers of beaches of smooth to average surge
From south to north they receive the names of Las Brisas Beach (The Breezes), Blue Beach, and Salagua Beach; this last one ends in the outlet of the stream with the same name, place that today is occupied by a golf course, where in 1614 took place the battle between the Dutch pirate Joris Van Speilbergen and the Spanish captain Sebastián VizcaÃÂno
Salagua was frequently visited by the pirates and buccaneers, because it was one of the points where the China Nao or the Manila Galleon paused to provide themselves with water and food, to continue their day towards the port of Acapulco. Among others, besides the already mentioned Speilbergen, they were in Salagua Francis Drake and Thomas Cavendish in 1587, Charles Swan in 1685, Picard in 1687, and William Dampier in 1704
The bay of Salagua is closed to the north by La Audiencia, small peninsula that gained international fame when the Las Hadas tourist construction was built, inaugurated in 1974
The Salagua beach is a place of history and legend, from where Hernán Cortés’ expeditions departed towards California. This beautiful beach is part of the extensive bay of Manzanillo. It is long and wide, of moderate slope and golden sand of average texture, with regular surge, but due to the strong slope it is recommended to swim with precaution, nevertheless it is ideal to tan yourself and have fun. Fishing with hook is practiced in this beach, in addition to the casting net fishing. In this place can be appraised diverse landscapes, as well as practice surfing, windsurfing, skiing or beach volleyball
It has restaurants where the varied products of the sea can be savored, with special attention the seafood soup, with its unquestionable marine flavor; and the colimense ceviche (Dish of marinated raw fish), the shaken fish and other seafood
Close to this beach you will find two typical towns of Manzanillo; Santiago and Salagua. There you will be able to find commercial stores and plazas that can satisfy the most demanding shopping tastes.
