It is located 15 kilometers to the south of the municipal head of Ixtlahuacán, nailed between the near mountainous areas, about 800 meters to the south of the town of San Gabriel, by an unpaved way.

This place can be acceded only by particular automobile or taxi, since there are no passenger bus routes

From the port of Manzanillo

By bus: It is not recommendable. In particular car: Approximate time: 1 hour and 30 minutes. Take the Manzanillo-Colima free or quota highways, and when you arrive to the crossing of Turla, turn right and follow the signallings of the grottos until arriving to the town of Ixtlahuacán. Once there, turn right until connecting with the way that leads to the town of Zapote. After 3 kilometers by this spotted way and with concrete bearing tracks, take a deviation to the right that goes into the hill and takes you to the community of San Gabriel after 15 km of unpaved road. Once there, look for the signallings of the grottos; you are just 800 meters away

From the city of Colima

By bus: It is not recommendable. By particular automobile: Approximate time: 1 hour. From downtown take the Colima-Manzanillo highway, and continue until arriving to the return to Turla. Continue by the road to your right, following the signallings of the grottos until arriving to the town of Ixtlahuacán. Once there, turn right on the road until connecting with the way that leads to the town of Zapote. After 3 kilometers by this spotted way and with concrete bearing tracks, take a deviation to the right that gets into the hill and takes you to the community of San Gabriel after 15 km of unpaved road. Once there, look for the signallings of the grottos; you are just 800 meters away

In both cases it is recommended to follow the existing tourist signallings that will guide you to the town of San Gabriel.

The Grotto of San Gabriel was discovered in 1957 by hunters, when one of its prey fell to the well where the entrance is located; thus was discovered the hole that gives access to the main camera. This grotto will impress you because it is not in the mouth of a mountain, but in the depths of the Earth

In order to accede to the main camera, it will be necessary to lower about 20 meters by metallic spiral stairs through the flue of the grotto, which is covered by the enormous roots of a tree (fig tree). When finishing this route you will discover an opening in the ground, so small that you will doubt to enter in it; nevertheless, the emotion grows when passing through the orifice that conducts to some stairs that communicate with the main camera of the grotto

Once in the interior, it is a true spectacle by the variety of colors and capricious forms that are appraised in their walls and rocky formations. The camera has approximately 30 meters of length, 15 meters of width and 30 meters of height; it will make you think about the wonderful way of the nature to express itself in its varied stalactites and stalagmites.

Se Localiza 15 kilómetros al sur de la cabecera municipal de Ixtlahuacán, enclavada entre la serranía cercana, a unos 800 metros más al sur del poblado de San Gabriel, por un camino de terracería.

A este lugar se puede acceder tan sólo en automóvil particular o bien en taxi, ya que no existen rutas de autobuses de pasajeros.

Desde el puerto de Manzanillo:

Por autobús: No es recomendable. En auto particular: Tiempo aproximado 1 hora y 30 minutos. Tomar la autopista o carretera libre Manzanillo-Colima, y al llegar al crucero de Turla, tomar el camino a mano derecha siguiendo los señalamientos de las grutas hasta llegar al poblado de Ixtlahuacán, una vez en él tomar el libramiento a mano derecha hasta entroncar con el camino al poblado del Zapote, después de transcurrir 3 kilómetros por este camino empedrado y con huellas de rodamiento de concreto, tomar una desviación a la derecha que se adentra en el cerro y lo lleva hasta la comunidad de San Gabriel después de 15 km. de camino de terracería, una vez en ella buscar los señalamientos de las grutas y de ahí tan solo restan 800 mts. de camino para llegar a las grutas.

Desde la ciudad de Colima:

Por camión: No es recomendable. En automóvil particular: Tiempo aproximado 1 hora, desde el Centro de la ciudad tomar la autopista Colima-Manzanillo, continuar hasta llegar al retorno a Turla, tomar el camino a mano derecha siguiendo los señalamientos de las grutas hasta llegar al poblado de Ixtlahuacán, una vez en él tomar el libramiento a mano derecha hasta entroncar con el camino al poblado del Zapote, después de transcurrir 3 kilómetros por este camino empedrado y con huellas de rodamiento de concreto, tomar una desviación a la derecha que se adentra en el cerro y lo lleva hasta la comunidad de San Gabriel después de 15 km. de camino de terracería, una vez en ella buscar los señalamientos de las grutas y de ahí tan solo restan 800 mts. de camino para llegar a las grutas.

En ambos casos se recomienda seguir los señalamientos turísticos existentes y que le guiarán hasta el poblado de San Gabriel.

Para ir a las grutas es necesario contactar primeramente con gente del H. Ayuntamiento de Ixtlahuacán al 01-313-32-4-90-08, para pedir un guía y que les abran para darles servicio.
