Located 22 kilometers to the north of the city of Colima and Comala, by road 16, after the town of La Becerrera, turning left by the branch to Yerbabuena.

From the city of Colima you can get through the Colima – Comala road, and once exceeding the limits of this population, continue on road 16, towards the town of San Antonio. Once there, take the road to La Becerrera, in which you must turn right on a deviation to the town of Yerbabuena, and one kilometer ahead is the Lagoon of the Maria.

Located in the crater of an old volcanic boiler, the lagoon offers one of the most attractive landscapes of the region. Around it the vegetation grows ebullient; in its borders there are roans, giant fig trees and tules. Its high sides are covered with coffee plantations that grow in the shade of the great trees of gravy, ash and sapodilla.

The lagoon is part of The María Recreational Center, administered by a common land cooperative. In its cold waters they work carp, lobina (A kind of sea bass) and catfish, used for fishing; fishing permissions are obtained in the entrance booth.

For those who like eco-tourism, there are long walks by the mountain get to a series of places full of natural beauty where it is normal to see deers and to admire a great diversity of birds

This is one of the favorite sites of the inhabitants of the region, because besides the beautiful water body surrounded by abundant vegetation and coffee plantations. It has pleasant corners to make picnics, and picnic tables located strategically around the lagoon

The environs of this beautiful and calm place offer great opportunities to practice long walk and camping, because the abundant vegetation in the coffee plantations creates attractive places for it.

Situado 22 kilómetros al norte de la ciudad de Colima y de Comala, por la carretera Num.16, después del poblado de La Becerrera y doblando a mano izquierda por el ramal a la Yerbabuena.

Desde la ciudad de Colima se accesa por la carretera Colima - Comala, y una vez rebasados los límites de esta población, se continúa por la carretera núm. 16, hacia el poblado de San Antonio, al llegar a la ex hacienda de San Antonio, parte un camino de terracería que llega a la población de La Becerrera, en la cual se toma un desvío a mano derecha por un camino empedrado que conduce a la Yerbabuena, y a un kilómetro de hincado este, se encuentra la Laguna de La María.
